Classic Vanilla American Buttercream Frosting

Smooth and easy vanilla buttercream frosting made with just a few ingredients, ready in 10 minutes.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter 2 sticks, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 –4 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
  • 1 pinch salt

Method
 

Beat softened butter in a bowl until smooth and creamy.
    Add powdered sugar gradually, mixing on low speed until combined.
      Add vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons milk or cream.
        Beat on medium-high for 2–3 minutes until smooth and fluffy.
          Adjust consistency by adding more milk (for thinner) or powdered sugar (for thicker).

            Notes

            Store in the fridge for up to 1 week. Let it come to room temperature and re-whip before using. Add liquid slowly to avoid making it too thin. A pinch of salt helps balance sweetness if needed.
